What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of natural medicine that was first introduced in the early 1800s. It is the second largest system of medicine used worldwide, and over 200 million people use homeopathy on a regular basis. The concept of homeopathy is based on the idea that ‘like cures like’ – meaning that a substance that can cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can help to relieve those same symptoms when used in a very small, specially prescribed dose.

Many people choose Homeopathy because of its natural, gentle approach – Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic and therefore safe for babies, children, adults, and even during pregnancy, and can also be used in conjunction with conventional medicines - and by its very nature it can be used for everyday ailments, as well as for longer-term health concerns.

 

What does an appointment look like?

Rather than just easing the isolated symptoms, homeopathy aims to treat the whole person – body, mind and emotions. Each person is unique, so a homeopath takes time to understand you as an individual in order to find the remedy that best matches the overall picture of health. The initial appointment involves a detailed consultation with the homeopath whereby they ask a series of questions to gauge your level of health and where to target treatment whilst also getting an idea of the client’s personality which can help choose apropriate individualised  medicines. Following the appointment, the Homeopath will give the client some remedies (they typically look like the small pills in the image below) and instructions as to when and how to take them.
